A Heart for the Nations – The Perez Family
New Levels
We are getting ready to embark on one of our greatest projects to date. A place of hope (Un Lugar de Esperanza), our tuition free school will soon be recognized by the government as an educational institution. It has been part of the vision for sometime now to seek recognition from the government and become a certified center of education. This gives the parents a choice! Our school has been a supplemental type school for ten years. The certification we are seeking is opening a whole new world to our community. This does not only offer a Christian education to the community, but also a safe haven for the students, this is something the public school does not provide. Many parents fear sending their children to the public school, some mothers actually wait outside of the school to make sure nothing happens to their child. We have already had various meetings with members from the secretary of education in Santiago, and they have been very helpful and encouraging.
Agua de vida – Living waters, the water purification system
The water purification system that was installed in February is the first of its kind to be set-up and running in our area and within the surrounding areas. This system allows us to process water and sell it to the community for less than half of the price it is sold for in the grocery stores and bodegas. The majority of the people of Baitoa could not afford to buy the purified water that is sold in the local stores therefore they would drink rain water or, worse yet, the water from the tap. Unclean water is the greatest source of sickness and disease in our community, but this purification system has changed all of that. What a blessing for the community! It does not only improve the quality of life but also speaks of God’s great love for them. This also opens more doors into the community so that we can share the love of God with them. Many would have never come to the church, but now they come for clean water. Pray that God continues to open doors!
A new doctor in town – Consultorio Emanuel opens its doors
Dr. Julio Cervantes, who also is the pastor of the church in Hato Mayor, is now doing medical outreach to the community of Baitoa. Every Saturday Dr. Cervantes comes to Baitoa and offers medical services to those who can not afford it. One of his patients, who is a farmer and never gives anything away, was so pleased that he brought Dr. Cervantes a few pounds of yucca to take home. On the weekends Baitoa does not have a clinic open or a doctor on call. The clinic that is run by the government is only open during the week and the doctor is there from 8 am- 12pm. If there is a medical emergency the nearest clinic is 20 minutes and they send the serious cases to Santiago which is then another 25-30 minutes away. One of our future goals is to have a clinic with a doctor on call 24hrs. It is necessary that a community has the basics to flourish and grow. We see this as a small step to greater things to come
Other ministry updates
The youth have been preparing for their street evangelism campaign. Every summer the youth hit the streets with dramas, dance and a powerful life changing message. Please pray for them and their ministry.
The women continue to sow into those in need. The Women of Destiny (the women’s ministry), every month select a family that is having a difficult time putting food on the table and provides them with groceries. This has not only blessed the families in need but it blesses the women that are giving.
The churches in Hato Mayor continue to grow and are focused on the vision - Hato Mayor for Jesus! There is a group of people there that love the Lord and are ready to see change in their community. The two churches, Haitian and Dominican have been meeting daily for prayer. This is an awesome testimony, the two nations coming together to lift up the name of Jesus and cry out for healing in the land.
Personal Note
These past few months have been times of advancing but also times of great trials. Our son, Zamar, was very sick with pneumonia, which caused complications with his heart. We thank the Lord that he is healed and recovered. At the same time he was sick I discovered that I was pregnant. Zamar will soon be 6, so we were very excited to be expecting our second child. When we arrived in the states a few weeks ago I began to experience some complications and soon afterwards suffered a miscarriage. These have been difficult times for us, but our GOD IS FAITHFUL and HE WILL RESTORE. We would ask you to please continue to pray for us and those that work with us in your prayers. We thank you for your love and support through this time; it has been good to be among family and friends.
Opportunities to sow
This is a multi-faceted ministry with much fertile ground. As the body of Christ we all have a part in advancing His kingdom and impacting the nations. Will you prayerfully seek the Lord as to your part? If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us: www.baitoa-theperezfamily.blogspot.com and Cherilyn57@hotmail.com
